Thirsty Tuesday

As some of you know, I gave up alcohol for the month of January (& desserts besides dark chocolate). It actually has been kind of easy, so far, especially w/ the help of these drinks:
-My tea collection.
-Dark chocolate cocoa & sugar-free whipped cream.
-At happy hour, the other day, I had soda water w/ an orange slice (to mock my favorite cocktail, Stoli O & soda).

Turn it up Tuesday

Maybe it’s the changes that I see in my body, energy, state of mind, etc. that motivates me or maybe it is all of you wonderful fellow bloggers that just gave me the extra push, but I have NEVER been so motivated in my life.

My workouts have changed so much and I am eating crazzzy delicious, healthy, foods.  It is crazy because my body literally cravesss this food. 

Food today:

  • Grapefruit, blackberries, and 1/2 a banana for breakfast.
  • Coffee w/ coconut milk.
  • Egg white omelette filled w/ spinach and light mozzarella.
  • Green tea w/ tbls of Apple Cider Vinegar.
  • Lunch was a smoothie w/ plain Chobani, mixed berries, coconut milk, flax seed, 1/2 a banana.
  • Dinner, 1/2 a turkey club on whole-wheat (no bacon, add avocado)
  • Green tea w/ tbls of Apple Cider Vinegar

Workout:

  • Ran 15 minutes
  • Walked at an incline of 9 for 15 minutes
  • Squats & tons of other leg exercises in the studio
  • Then, I worked for 5 hours (cocktail waitress).  This is my part time job for some extra cash while I student teach & what I did through out college. I count it as a little light cardio :))

This morning I had a delicious smoothie w/ flax seed, plain Chobani yogurt, mixed berries, coconut milk, 1Truvia packet, pom seeds, 1/2 a lemon (recipe for this delicious, antioxidant filled smoothie can be found in my previous post). & coffee w/ coconut milk.

What a wonderful way to start my day!

For a snack I am having green tea w/ a splash of apple cider vinegar and grapefruit.

After I finish up on the computer (which usually takes up most of my morning), I will go workout (some abs plus cardio) & then later on tonight I am going to Hot Yoga, w/ my brother who is in town!

I am revving my workouts up these next few weeks, because it is the holidays which means; A. I have more free time B. I will be eating/drinking much more calories.

[frozen mixed berries are ALWAYS in my freezer, I throw them in yogurt, smoothies, quinoa, or eat them plain! They go so well with coconut milk.]

Quick cleansing & mini-motivations.

Today I am sort of starting a cleanse, nothing intense. I just chopped up cucumbers, lemons, and limes and threw them in 3 different HUGE containers with water and am letting them sit in the fridge and then I will drink it all up and make more over the next 4 days.  Also, I am drinking 4 cups of green tea a day with a little Apple Cider Vinegar to really just flush out my system (I usually only drink about 4 cups a week).

Since I am at the new place and have a new kitchen, I want to really get into my system and kind of re-charge a little bit!

For breakfast today,

I had Quinoa w/ berries & some coconut milk.  YUMM.

Then for lunch I had Quinoa (the other 1/2 of the batch from lunch) & mixed in tons of spinach and topped with 2 eggs (extra runny).

How do you guys quick cleanse?! or flush out your system?

Mini Goals. MY FAV.

Earlier I had posted how empowering the first of the month can be.  I am a huge believer in LITTLE goals. Example: last February my goal was to drink TONS more water. Completed that and it became a habit. & Now almost a year later I still drink tons of water. WAY more than I drank this time last year. & I did that for every month starting in Jan. & each month onto the next goals.

You see, if you make new goals every month and then focus on those, after 21 days (how long it takes to form a habit) then you will have those tiny goals completed and new healthy habits.

Easy examples for beginners:

  • Drink at 3 water bottles a day.
  • No more pop, not even DIET.
  • 30 min. of cardio, 3 times a week.
  • An apple or banana as a snack a day.  & carrots or celery or other veggie as a snack a day.
  • 1/2 the portions that you usually eat.

Each month have new small goals to complete and it is soo much easier to stick to that. AND the best part is, a year later you will have made tons of great healthy lifestyle changes. After all, it isn’t about fast dieting. It’s about creating healthy changes that will last.

Anyway,

This December:

  • 2 yoga sessions a week.
  • 1 Barre class a week.
  • 25 squats a day for 2 weeks. Then, 35 for the next 2 weeks. & 30 lounges a day.
  • 6 days of cardio a week.
  • More green tea. I used to always drink green tea but for some reason haven’t for a few months! Sad.
  • Blogwise: it is my second month w/ the blog, this month I will blog more &! blog more about myself.  Recipes, pictures, etc.

This list is mostly based off of fitness. I do not really have any specific dietary goals right now, because I feel as though I eat generally really clean & I allow a little wiggle room for indulging. Although, I may be doing a refined dietary plan closer to Christmas break. But, that will take some planning & until then, no promises!

& on this Saturday night, I will be staying in watching Netflix and drinking a banana/pumpkin spice/ milk & ice smoothie. Because, I have a HUGE sweet tooth & I don’t keep sweets in the house (for this very reason).

Relaxation & a delicious [healthy] bedtime drink.

One of the pivotal moments of my day, is the time I get into bed & relax.  My muscles have worked hard & I have thought consciously about every thing I have put into my body [the coffee, the mass amts of water, & the nutrient filled foods].  All of this has taken a mental toll on my body, not including everything else that happens in a day.

Now it is time to relax, fall asleep, and let my body recover.  After all, a KEY point to weight loss AND health is getting LOTS of sleep.

My night time snack:

+ 1 green tea bag

+ steamed milk

+ 2 Truvia packets

Directions: heat milk & boil water. Let green tea bag steep. Add steamed milk and Truvia packets.

This not only curbed my sweets craving, it relaxed, warmed, and gave me some wonderful green tea benefits.
